Letters to my daughter: Part 1

When I found out I was pregnant with Kendi, I started a journal. Something she could one day read and enjoy (or get weirded out by, who knows)

I wrote, Martin wrote, our family and friends wrote:

I wrote:

I love that you exist. I am so happy. Your daddy has done a dance up and down this house. I can’t wait to meet you. You are the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me.

Welcome to the Mummy Tummy Hotel…. We offer free food, free lodging and sometimes a bumpy ride. Hope you will enjoy your stay.

Baby I have waited

With breath baited

And now excited

That finally

You have come from Heaven

And your heart beats

And unifies

The family.

Hey baby, it’s your aunty Mich. Correction, your BEST aunty. I’m so happy you’re in the tummy hotel. You’re making mummy weird and sick but it’s all good. I’m going to go shopping for you. I’ll get little socks, little shoes and clothes. I really can’t wait to meet you. Before you come you will probably hear me playing guitar and singing to you while you’re still checked in. I LOVE YOU BABY.

Best aunty,

Mich

I think you are a boy but I’d much rather if you were a girl.

I am your cool aunt. I have to admit I’m not 100% about your coming but since you’re here, I guess we have to make do.

I like the good life (someone’s got to do it) and I think we’re going to have a lot of fun together.

I hope you like shoes.

P.S: CHOCOLATE IS A VEGETABLE.

YOU’RE WELCOME

Tawi.

Hello Baby!

It’s your Aunty Sophie! When I hear d from your parents that you were on the way, I was (and still am) so excited.

I wonder what you will look like! Whatever the case, I know God has crafted you very delicately and beautifully. And also importantly, you are so loved by the whole family! We can’t wait to see you.

We are all praying for your safe arrival.

Lots and lots of love and kisses and hugs and mushiness!!

Hi Baby!!

Yaay, I am super happy that you are here. I do find myself smiling every time I think that you are on your way here. You were loved way before conception and as we anticipate your arrival, I feel like I am falling in love with you each day. It’s amazing really how much we have not met yet but I have so much love swelling in my heart already for you.

I pray that you will be an amazing blessing to your parents and to all who are around you.

One day when you get to read this, I want you to always remember Psalm 139. God is always near and He loves you and always wants the best for you.

I sure hope to spoil you all of it.

Lotsa love

Aunty/Uncle Nadia (I feel I should explain that in my family, you can either be an uncle or an aunty depending not on your own sex but on the sex of the child you are related to. We are strange. I know)
